Hey everyone, Hiroshi here from Hiroshi Studio!
It’s only been a short while since we launched Brain Training Mahjong Puzzle - Mahjong Solitaire & Sichuan, but the response has been absolutely incredible. Seeing so many of you enjoy the game fills me with immense gratitude. Thank you, truly!
Today, I wanted to pull back the curtain a bit and share an exciting glimpse into the future of "Brain Training Mahjong Puzzle." We're going to dive into our upcoming update plans, complete with some candid behind-the-scenes insights from my development journey. Even though we just released, my mind is already racing ahead to what's next! (Laughs)
A Quick Refresher: What is "Brain Training Mahjong Puzzle"?
For those new to the game or needing a quick recap, "Brain Training Mahjong Puzzle" is an Android puzzle game I, as an individual developer at Hiroshi Studio, created. Its core appeal lies in offering two classic mahjong tile puzzles – Mahjong Solitaire and Sichuan (Shisen-sho) – within a single, easy-to-play app.
Designed primarily for the senior generation for "brain training," it’s also crafted for wide appeal with simple tap-based controls and an intuitive UI, making it accessible for all ages.
Two Core Puzzles & Engaging Variations
The app features:
- Mahjong Solitaire: Clear pairs of identical tiles from 3D stacks, following classic rules (uncovered, one side open). Enjoy 97 layouts across "Easy," "Normal," and "Hard" difficulties.
- Sichuan (Shisen-sho): Connect identical tiles on a flat board with lines that make up to two turns. There are 60 layouts, also with three difficulty levels. The outer board perimeter can be used as a path, adding a unique twist.
Beyond standard play, we offer four exciting variations:
- Time Attack: Clear pairs within 10 seconds for a thrill.
- 1-Bend (Sichuan only): A high-difficulty mode with only one turn allowed per connection.
- No Perimeter (Sichuan only): Increases strategic depth by disabling outer path usage.
- Chain (Sichuan only): Earn bonus scores for continuous clears.
A Developer's Confessions: "Here's Where I Obsessed"
When creating "Brain Training Mahjong Puzzle," there were a few key areas where I poured extra effort. Let me share some behind-the-scenes stories before we get to the updates.
The "Guaranteed Clear" Algorithm: No More Dead Ends!
A major frustration in puzzle games is getting stuck on an unsolvable board. I absolutely wanted to eliminate that stress. My solution was to implement a unique logic: instead of random tile placement, the game generates boards by reversing a clear sequence. This ensures every single layout is guaranteed to be solvable, allowing you to enjoy the puzzle without frustrating dead ends.
Bringing Tiles to Life with 3D Visuals
Early versions of the tiles looked quite flat. To enhance visual quality and immersion, I spent considerable time refining their appearance. This involved strengthening layer offsets to create a stepped inclination, and adding shadows and highlights to simulate a light source. The result is a much more realistic and beautiful representation of stacked tiles.
Custom Tile Art: From Traditional to "Fruits & Sweets"
Recognizing that traditional mahjong tiles might be intimidating for some, I created an alternative: a "Fruits & Sweets" version of the tile artwork. I personally designed all 34 SVG-based patterns, categorizing them (e.g., fruits for "manzu," sweets for "pinzu"). This option aims to make the game more approachable and fun for a wider audience, especially children.
Senior-Friendly Design & Our Player-First Ad Policy
To ensure a comfortable experience for seniors, I implemented several features:
- Large, easy-to-see tiles and high-contrast backgrounds.
- Simple, tap-only controls.
- A hint function to guide players when stuck.
- Pinch-to-zoom (50% to 200%) for better visibility, especially on complex Sichuan layouts.
While the app is completely free and supported by ads, my priority is a stress-free experience. Therefore:
- No ads interrupt gameplay.
- Ads only appear between plays.
- There are no in-app purchases.
You can enjoy brain training without interruptions!
The Main Event! Unveiling Our Future Update Plans!
Now, let's get to the exciting part: my plans for upcoming updates to make "Brain Training Mahjong Puzzle" even better!
1. Implementing a Statistics Feature
I want players to track their progress! This feature will record your play history, displaying stats like clear counts for each mode and your fastest clear times for individual layouts. Seeing your achievements visually will boost motivation and allow for friendly competition.
2. Introducing Daily Challenges
To provide fresh content every day, I'm planning Daily Challenges. Each day will offer a new layout or a specific rule-based challenge, encouraging continuous engagement and making the app a fun part of your daily routine for brain activation.
3. Adding an Achievement System
An achievement system will add a "completionist" element, introducing new goals and increasing replayability. Players can unlock various achievements, such as "Clear all layouts in Time Attack mode!" or "Clear 100 times with fruit tiles," adding depth to the game.
4. Considering an iOS Version Release
Many users have requested an iPhone version. Leveraging Flutter, a cross-platform framework, I am now seriously considering an iOS version release. Bringing "Brain Training Mahjong Puzzle" to a wider audience is a significant goal for me.
5. Multi-language Expansion to Chinese, Korean, and More
Currently supporting Japanese and English, I aim for global reach. Given the popularity of mahjong puzzles in Asia, I plan to expand multi-language support to include Chinese, Korean, and other languages. This is a crucial step to share the game with the world, utilizing Flutter's localization features.
Growing the App Together with You, Our Users
While these updates are my ideas, I value feedback from you, our users, above all else. Your suggestions for new features or improvements are incredibly important.
Please share your thoughts via Google Play reviews or Hiroshi Studio's social media channels. Your voices are the driving force that will help "Brain Training Mahjong Puzzle" grow into an even better app.
It's my heartfelt wish to nurture this app into a game that is loved for a long, long time. Thank you for your continued support of "Brain Training Mahjong Puzzle - Mahjong Solitaire & Sichuan!"
